Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be sharing some “Dad hacks” from a Marc Picket, who is raising two young kids on his own. I love his approach and hope it can help us all see a different perspective.
Maybe the bigger benefit of pomodoros is that they also help on getting me to do things that I might procrastinate. One example is every Tuesday morning, I set a pomodoro and write an email to my kids.
Neither of my kids can read yet, but these are meant to be for them when they're in their late teens or early adulthood. The emails usually about 10% chronicle, 10% personal anecdotes, and 80% life advice. I don't know if my kids will ever read them, but they're there if they want them.
During the pomodoro, I have two options: I can write the email or I can stare at my keyboard (no internet, no TV, no *cleaning*). After a few minutes, actually writing something, *anything*, seems more fun than just staring at my keyboard, so I usually end up writing quite a bit.
