That Time of the Month

Updated: Aug 23, 2018

Holy shit. I just got my period. For most of you, that’s NBD. However, I haven’t had one in almost four years. Mine never came back after Rowan was born, even after breastfeeding ended.

When the Wall Street Journal piece about my health came out, I felt like a fraud. Regular periods are one of the two significant signals that our body is working correctly. (The other is my kid's favorite topic of conversation -- poop.) What was stressing my body so much that it didn’t feel safe to reproduce?

Over the past six months, I’ve tried everything. I cut out dairy and gluten, reduced my exercise, and gained weight. I also focused on removing stress -- declaring a weekly ‘day of rest’ and becoming more in tuned with my daily needs.

People who know me well said that I seem like I entirely different person. I actually relax.

Anyhow, this post is for two reasons. First, celebrate all your wins, especially hard work paying off. Secondly, remember that you never know what’s going on behind the scenes with others. Sometimes the moms who look like they are the strongest, need the most help.

Fuck yeah!

Regular periods are one of the two major signals that our body is working properly. (The other is poop.) Its an indicator of stress, that your body don't feel safe to reproduce.
