Recently, I sat down with a friend that is super regimented—I mean, ex-military regimented. We were joking about how that affects his family, and he shared a great tip that his wife enforces. Instead of giving feedback in the moment, he has to write it down. Then he’s only allowed to give every fifth piece.
I love this. Yes, it could save your marriage, but it’s also impactful with your team. How much must we be driving our teams crazy with minutia? How much more impactful would our feedback be if we saved it up for the items that truly mattered?
So this week, hold some back, so what you do say has more weight.
